CLINICAL CHEMISTRY

Clinical chemistry is the area of chemistry that is generally concerned with the analysis of body fluids for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. It is an applied form of biochemistry. Common clinical chemistry tests include:

  • Electrolytes- Sodium potassium, chloride
  • Lipid profile (Cholesterol, Triglyceride, HDL, LDL)
  • Fasting Glucose / HBA1C
  • Uric acid
  • Renal (Kidney) Function tests- Creatinine, blood urea
  • Liver tests- Bilirubin, Alkaline phosphatase, Aspartate transaminase (AST), Alanine transaminase (ALT), Gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT)
  • Total protein (Serum)- Albumin, Globulin
  • Cardiac markers- Troponin, CK-MB
  • Minerals- Calcium, Magnesium, Phosphate, Potassium
  • Blood deficiency disorders- Iron, Transferrin saturation, Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Folic acid (Folate), Ferritin
  • C-reactive protein (CRP)
